If you're on short-term contracts or freelancing, you're more exposed. Companies can replace one-off projects with AI tools easily, testing them without the risk or cost of hiring someone.


Task-Level Automation


AI doesn't usually take jobs all at once, it takes them task by task.


If your day is full of repeatable, rules-based work, like formatting reports, summarizing content, writing standard code, or reviewing basic contracts, those tasks are first in line.


According to McKinsey, up to 70% of tasks in many roles are technically automatable.

The job may stay, but it will look very different.


Domain Exposure


Some industries are simply closer to the edge.


Business applications, HR ops, content marketing, analytics dashboards, these are structured, pattern-heavy domains where generative AI thrives. The more template-driven your field is, the more likely you’ll feel the squeeze.


Seniority and Scarcity


Juniors are at greater risk.


Early-career roles often involve grunt work, exactly what AI excels at. But experience still matters. If you bring system-level thinking, production operations, domain expertise, or influence over architecture or policy, you’re harder to replace.


Better yet? If your skills are rare and in high demand, you might get paid more as your productivity increases with AI tools.

Here’s the twist: AI isn’t an equalizer, it’s an amplifier. It boosts the output of top performers more than it helps beginners.


A strong developer with Copilot ships faster than ever. A sharp designer using Midjourney moves from mockup to brand identity in hours. The gap between good and great just got wider.


If you’re already strong, AI multiplies your edge.


The Opportunity Hidden in Plain Sight


AI isn't just about loss. It's about leverage.

  • Lean startups can go farther. AI lets a three-person team ship what once took 30.

  • You can build fast and cheap. Infra, copy, visuals, and MVPs, spun up in hours, not months.

  • Senior talent is rewarded more. AI makes skilled people more productive, and more valuable.

  • Entirely new roles are emerging. People will soon be paid six figures for jobs that didn’t exist three years ago.


Human Moats Still Matter


AI is powerful, but it’s not human.

What to Do Now


You don’t need to panic. You need to act with intention.

  1. Inventory your tasks. What’s repeatable, rules-based, or template-driven? That’s at risk. Start automating it yourself to increase your productivity.

  2. Upskill in judgment-heavy areas. Learn how to guide AI, not just use it.

  3. Strengthen your network. Relationships, referrals, and trust still matter deeply.

  4. Find problems AI unlocks. If you can solve something with a few GPUs and a few smart people, you’ve got a company.


AI isn’t coming. It’s here.
